The Supreme Council of Pharmacy is established at the Minister of Health as an advisory body to discuss and give opinions on:

Main guidelines and priorities in the field of pharmacy

Ethical issues in pharmacy

Draft regulations related to pharmacy

Research priorities in the field of pharmacy

Programmes for public education campaigns in the field of ​​medicinal products

The Supreme Council of Pharmacy considers applications for retail sale of medicinal products and provides motivated proposal to the Minister of Health for authorization or denial, and for the withdrawal of authorizations.

Composition

The composition of the Board is composed of five members appointed by the Minister of Health, five representatives of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union, two representatives of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and one representative of pharmaceutical faculties of medical universities. The Minister of Health is the Chairperson of the Board without voting right.
